The Italian Ambassador to Kabul, H.E. Vittorio Sandalli and his wife were invited for a working lunch at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome, to meet with H.E. Ambassador Khaled Ahmad Zekriya and his wife.
 
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the preparations for the celebration for the 100th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Afghanistan and Italy, the further strengthening of the bilateral ties, and the importance of the forthcoming telephone call between H.E. the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and H.E. the Prime Minister of the Italian Republic.
 
On the sideline of the meeting, Ambassador Sandalli met with the diplomats and the embassy staff, and both ambassadors planted two commemorative trees in the embassy garden to mark the beginning of the new solar year 1400.

The Ambassador of Afghanistan to Rome - Italy, H.E. Khaled Ahmad Zekriya, today virtually presented his credentials to H.E. Dr. Qyuo, Director - General of Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations.

H.E. Khalid Ahmad Zekriya, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome – Italy, held two separate courtesy calls with H.E. Hamid Bayat, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Rome, and H.E. Jauhar Saleem, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Rome.
While conveying their Lunar New Year and Nowruz greetings, both Ambassadors wished Ambassador Zekriya greater success in his new tenure as the Ambassador of Afghanistan to Rome – Italy. During the calls, enhancement of bilateral relations and exploring cooperation in the areas of political and cultural were also discussed.
 
 


Ambassador Khalid Ahmad Zekriya, met virtually with the Italian special envoy to Afghanistan, Mr. Gianfranco Petruzzella, and the Head of the Afghanistan, Gulf, Arab Islands and OIC Division at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Gianclemente De Felice. 

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the peace process, the celebration for the 100th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Afghanistan and Italy, the forthcoming visit of the Italy special envoy to Kabul and Herat, and the future work plan in political, economic and cultural sectors.

 

Ambassador Khaled Ahmad Zekriya, presented his Credentials on March 4th at the Quirinale Palace to the President of the Italian Republic, H.E. Sergio Mattarella, and conveyed the greetings and gratitude of H.E. President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and the people of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the government’s desire to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation with Italy.

KABUL – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of IRoA has learned with deep regret about the killing of the Italian Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Luca Attanasio, along with one of his colleagues and a World Food Program driver on Monday during a visit to the eastern part of the African country of Congo.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Haneef Atmar conveys his deepest condolences to his Italian counterpart, Mr. Luigi Di Maio, expressing his grief at the tragic killing of the late ambassador and his colleagues.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families and loved ones.

His Excellency Khaled Ahmad Zekriya, Ambassador-Designate of Afghanistan to Italy, today morning met with the diplomats and embassy staff. During the meeting, Ambassador Zekriya briefly expressed his short, medium and long-term plans and thanked the Chargé d'affaires and all the embassy staff for their tireless efforts over the past nine months. Meanwhile, he laid more emphasis on further strengthening relations between Italy and Afghanistan.

 

On 4th and 5th of November, the Embassy of Afghanistan in Rome opened the book of condolences to commemorate the victims of the Monday, November 2, 2020 terrorist attacks on Kabul University, in which 22 people were martyred and dozens of others were injured.
On this occasion, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic, high-ranking officials, Ambassadors and members of various diplomatic missions residing in Rome, and representatives of several international organizations based in Rome, conveyed their condolences and sympathy either in the book or through official messages with the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
The Afghanistan Embassy in Rome expresses its gratitude to all the representatives of Rome-based international organizations and diplomatic missions for their sympathy and condolences.
