Rome, 31 August 2022
The Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome, strongly condemns the continued widespread women and girls’ rights violation by the Taliban across Afghanistan, especially their members’ forced marriages with women and girls since the illegitimate takeover of Afghanistan.
In a video that went viral on social media yesterday, Elaha Dilawarzai, a student at Kabul Medical University and daughter of a former National Defense and Security Forces of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, claims that Qari Saeed Khosti, former spokesperson of the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior has tortured, raped, and forcefully married her. Earlier this year, a report by Amnesty International had also revealed that “members of the Taliban [group] have used their positions of influence and power to force girls and women to marry them”.
These barbaric acts follow the spate of other measures on women and girls by the illegitimate administration of Taliban in Kabul, which prohibits them from secondary and tertiary education, barre them from returning to their jobs, prevent them from boarding aircraft without a male guardian, and ordering them to cover their faces while on air.
The Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome once again condemns in the strongest possible terms these atrocities and asks for putting an end to the current endemic of fearmongering in the country. This Embassy also calls on the Government of Italy, the international community, and the United Nations to stand in solidarity with Afghan women and girls, and to stress their support for their aspirations for a peaceful, democratic, and pluralistic society based on the promotion of universal respect and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Statement by the Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome Condemning Human Rights Violation by the Taliban in Panjshir, Afghanistan
Rome, 24 August 2022
The Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (IRoA) in Rome – Italy, strongly condemns the continued widespread human rights violation by the Taliban group across Afghanistan, especially as witnessed by the recent arrests and abductions of unarmed civilians in the province of Panjshir.
These graphic evidences suggest that the arbitrary detentions, hostage-takings, torture, and ill-treatment of innocent civilians by the Taliban in the province of Panjshir clearly constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.
By enjoying an atmosphere of impunity, the Taliban have intensified their extremist and oppressive rule as well as their disturbing pattern of misogyny, ethnic hatred, violence, and terror. These war crimes and widespread human rights violation repeatedly committed by the Taliban need not only unequivocal condemnation, but also the immediate application of preventive and accountability measures as well as the adoption of new approach in form of the international community’s engagement with the Taliban.
The Embassy and Mission of the IRoA in Rome reiterates its early calls on the international community as a whole, and in particular on the relevant institutions of the United Nations, to pay special attention to and report on these crimes, and to take concrete measures for improving the situation on the ground. It further calls on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to fulfil its mandate by investigating and holding individual perpetrators, their command chain and leaders accountable so such further crimes are prevented.
We stand with all the people of Afghanistan in protecting our religious and ethnic diversity, and remain fully committed to using all available channels to highlight and report these atrocities committed by the Taliban, while helping facilitate preventive and accountability measures.
Please be informed that the Embassy & Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and its consulate section in Rome, will be closed on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, August 15th, 16th, and 19th 2022, due to Ferragosto in Italy and 103rd Anniversary of Afghanistan’s Independence Day. The Embassy and its consulate will resume services on Wednesday and Thursday, August 17th and 18th 2022.

Rome, 23 August 2022
The Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome, is beyond deeply devastated to hear heavy rains triggered flash floods in Logar, Noorsitan, Maidan Wardak, Parwan and Ghazni provinces of Afghanistan on Saturday. The deadly floods killed at least 70 people, injured others and destroyed hundred acres of crops as well as many households' assets and livelihood.

As we sought the support of the international community and humanitarian organizations to provide emergency assessments and crucial relief items to those who are affected, we extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and pray for a speedy recovery of all those who are injured.
The Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome shall continue to diligently work and cooperate with relevant international organizations to address this issue and facilitate the process of delivering immediate humanitarian aid.
